The initials “RSS” are used to refer to the following formats:
- Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)
- RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0)
- Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
RSS is an archive generated by many web sites and weblogs. RSS formats are specified using XML.Although RSS formats have evolved since March 1999, the RSS icon (“
“) was used for the first time between 2005 and 2006.
An item is each element of information in a RSS archive. Each item has a title, a summary and a URL to the main page, sometimes it also appears the name of the autor.
Another charasteristic of this type of archives is that when in that RSS archive there’s any update, it’s known. You don’t have to enter in the web site, you can read the extended version just entering in the RSS archive.
